About Axis Behavioral Health
At Axis Behavioral Health, an independent outpatient center in Mt Pleasant, Wisconsin, steady support and the right structure can help you regain solid footing. That belief shapes how we care for adults across Racine County who are facing a mental health concern, a substance use concern, or both.
That means real, evidence-based care through our PHP (Partial Hospitalization Program) and IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program). No residential stays, no medical detox, no overnight beds. Just structured sessions you can do in person or virtually. So if you’ve got a job, classes, or people counting on you, treatment can help you stay connected to those parts of your life.
Our Mission and What We Value
We exist for adults who need structured support and don’t want to put the rest of their life on hold to get it. We start by understanding who you are as a person, long before we get to a diagnosis. That means learning about your mental health, any substance use, your history, your relationships, and what you’re working toward, before we ever talk about a plan. These pieces of life hardly ever stay separate, so we don’t treat them as if they do. Our goal is to help you address what’s in front of you right now while you stay connected to your home, your family, and your community.
Our values shape how we do that. We stay clear about what care involves without relying on technical language or vague reassurance. We meet you as a person first, without judgment about what brought you here. We stay practical about what comes next and work collaboratively to build care around your circumstances and goals.
What Does Care at Axis Look Like?
Before we decide anything about your care, we take time to understand your history, current symptoms, and what you need day-to-day to function well. From there, we build an individualized treatment plan. Treatment plans aren’t fixed. We revisit and adjust your plan as your needs change. If something isn’t working or your circumstances shift, we can revisit your plan with you.
Evidence-Based and Trauma-Informed
Much of the therapeutic work you’ll do with us draws on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), evidence-based approaches used in mental health and substance use treatment. CBT focuses on identifying patterns in thoughts and behaviors and developing more helpful ways of responding to them. DBT teaches skills to manage difficult emotions, tolerate distress, and navigate relationships. Alongside that evidence-based clinical foundation, we work in a trauma-informed way. In practice, that means we focus on your safety, stay transparent with you about what to expect at each step, and build your care collaboratively with you.
Integrated Treatment for Co-Occurring Conditions
Mental health concerns and substance use concerns can occur at the same time. Clinicians describe this as co-occurring disorders. Our approach is integrated: when both are part of what you’re experiencing, our clinical team can address them together within the same program. Whatever combination of concerns brought you in, whether anxiety, depression, substance use, or several at once, we build your care around it.
The clinicians working with you day to day are licensed professionals who function as one team. That matters most when mental health and substance use are both part of your care at the same time. A coordinated approach helps your clinical team understand how different concerns may be affecting one another and plan your care with the whole picture in mind.
Insurance and coverage
Let Us Handle the Insurance Part
Cost questions stop many adults from picking up the phone, and we can remove that worry early. Share your insurance information with our admissions team, and we verify your benefits with your carrier. We then explain your coverage in plain language before you commit to anything. Nothing you share commits you to treatment.
Your plan may cover some or all of your treatment, and we confirm the details with you before you enroll. Coverage varies between plans, even within the same carrier, so verification replaces guesswork with numbers. If you do not have insurance, we walk you through the payment options available to you. Verification takes one short form or one phone call.
No obligation. Your information is protected and handled under HIPAA.
What Makes Axis Behavioral Health Different
Our approach brings together several parts of care that matter when you’re trying to find the right support:
- Integrated dual-diagnosis care, treating mental health and substance use together in one coordinated plan
- Licensed clinical expertise paired with staff who bring lived recovery experience
- A judgment-free, friendly environment from first contact onward
- The choice between in-person and virtual sessions
- 24/7 crisis support and safety planning between scheduled sessions
As your needs change, we can revisit your treatment plan with you so your care continues to reflect where you are.
The Path Through Care: PHP to IOP
PHP is the more structured level of care, with more hours of programming each week for people who need more support right now. IOP is a step down in intensity, still structured and still regular. It’s for people who need less day-to-day scaffolding, whether they’re moving from PHP or starting there directly. Each program addresses mental health, substance use, or both, depending on what brought you in. Both sit within a broader continuum of care, matching the support you need at a given time. Either way, your days stay anchored at home. You come in for sessions, in person or virtually, then return to your routine.
Find the Right Place to Begin
Reaching out doesn’t commit you to anything beyond a call. When you contact us, we’ll set up an assessment to understand what’s going on and help you find the right level of care. That happens without judgment, no matter what you’re bringing into it. If you need support outside scheduled sessions, our 24/7 crisis support is also available. Our admissions page walks through what happens after that first call, step by step.
Common Questions About Axis Behavioral Health
These are the questions people considering care with us ask most.
What should I expect at my first assessment?
Your first visit is a comprehensive assessment: a conversation with a member of our clinical team. We’ll talk through your mental health, any substance use, your history, and what’s going on in your life right now. Then we’ll use that conversation to determine which level of care fits: PHP or IOP.
Will my insurance cover treatment, and how is that verified?
Coverage varies by plan, so care with us may be covered depending on your specific insurance. When you call us, our team can walk you through insurance verification and help you understand what’s covered before you commit to anything. If you’re paying out of pocket, we can talk through that option too.
Can I keep working, going to school, or caring for my family while in treatment?
PHP and IOP provide scheduled outpatient care without requiring an overnight stay. Depending on your level of care and schedule, treatment may let you stay connected to work, school, family, and other responsibilities. We’ll talk with you about what your treatment schedule involves so you know what to expect.
Can I keep working while I am in treatment?
Many people do. Our intensive outpatient tracks run in mornings or evenings, and our virtual programs remove the commute entirely. Partial hospitalization takes more of the day and is harder to combine with a full schedule, which is one of the things we discuss during your assessment.
What happens if I’m in crisis right now, or outside of program hours?
Our crisis support is available 24/7, so you won’t have to wait until the next business day to reach someone. If you’re in immediate danger, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. Outside of that, our crisis support is there for anything that comes up between scheduled sessions.
Is treatment at Axis confidential?
Yes. We take your privacy and confidentiality seriously and handle your care information in accordance with applicable privacy laws and clinical requirements. In certain situations, law may require or permit disclosure, and our team can explain those limits to you.
